Speaking in a language that is not your native language can be incredibly challenging and anxiety provoking.

But there’s something you can do to help yourself feel more comfortable and confident.

1. Changing mindset and approach

The first you have to do is mindset and approach. Many of us, as non-native speakers want to sound like native speakers, that puts a tremendous amount of preasure on ourselves.

Rather, we should simply focus on the clarity of our message. Realisticly, we will never sound exactly like a naive speaker, but we can make sure our messages are clear and understandable.

We can do that by being very focused and repeating ourselves. So, say something and give an example of a story or using an analogy. So, focus on clarity rather than perfection.

2. Well construct your message

Additionally, we can help our audiences by making sure our message well-structured, rather than just listing alots of information:

A beginning, a middle and an end.

By taking the time to focus on the way we appraoch, our speaking as well as constructing our messages, it can really help.

3. Learn to listen

Finally, we need to listen, and listen well. And we have to reflect on what worked and what didn’t. In those ways, we can learn and improve. By doing all of these things, we can be better as speaking a language that is not a native one.
